This video in our seven-part video series reviews some of the symptoms and warning signs for types of arthritis most likely to alter the active lifestyles of our seniors.
Osteoarthritis: Signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis are most likely to appear slowly and can range from moderate to severe. Typically, achy joints that may be painful or stiff are some of the early symptoms.
It is believed that excess weight, injury or overuse of joints could lead to osteoarthritis. Exercise that focuses on flexibility, aerobic training and strengthening are sometimes recommended by physicians.
Fibromyalgia: This arthritis type has varied symptoms that can range from vague complaints such as chronic headaches or stomachaches. Additionally, pain in the joints and tenderness among muscles and nerves are attributed to fibromyalgia. Additionally, interruption in sleep may lead to severe fatigue.
Rheumatoid Arthritis: This type of arthritis not only affects the joints but it can affect other parts of the body such as eyes, mouths or lungs. Additionally, this disease is considered symmetrical and systemic in nature. Some of the more familiar symptoms may include warm joints, decreased range of motion, fatigue, anemia, loss of appetite or a low-grade fever.
